As I do unit two, the thought has occurred to me that there is now a greater emphasis on hot knowledge as opposed to cold knowledge in the selection of students for courses eg Veterinary practice. Do people agree? If so, how do we have productive discussions with our students about this apart from at the more simplistic level of saying you should get volunteering experience etc?

I certainly agree, here at my local Uni there seems to be advertisements seeking to cut through the cold knowledge to target those who find the decoding process difficult. I think students we can help develop students critical thinking regarding advertisement. Perhaps using a Uni ad as an example in an advertising unit?
