    Factors that Matter

    in Unit 4

This was so informative and the content was organised coherently. Cultural, economic, racial capital have a profound effect on defining the lives of young Australians. So much of the influence is outside the school gate! The challenge is how can schools counteract these strong influencing factors.

Location is an important factor for a student aspiring to attend university to consider before making the transition. If a university is far from home and a student must relocate there are many issues to navigate including separation from family and community, being able to cope financially and adapting to a new city alone as well as then coping with the demands of university study. If a student is first in family to do so, there is an added uncertainty as parents and siblings have not had the experience to reassure the student in their choice.
