This PL has really helped me to see how my teaching in early learning can still have a huge impact on my students later in life.
I am very lucky to be teaching within a private Christian school, where the vast majority of our students have a least one parents with a Bachelors or higher education. I have children from all walks, but happily all of them will have that parental influence of achievement within their life.
Would love some feedback on how to put some of these into action seeing as how I teach younger years (Year 2) and teach in a high socioeconomic school.
Sharing the social capital of some parents at your school with the students of other walks might be a place to start? Consider encouraging parents and carers in a field related to your topics of study to come in and share their topic specific knowledge plus talk about their career and what it takes (personal attributes and pathways to higher education) to get there. Consider partnering with a school in a less affluent section of society to share the socio-cultural capital. Perhaps the other school may have parents or community members able to talk to your students about TAFE and trades as well.
