Males in non-traditional areas of study have just as much right to be in a core equity target group as females.

I found the statistics in this category quite surprising. I was under the impression that more people went to University today than they used to. But the proportion of First in Family means that they don't.

As an RTO college with only Year 11 and Year 12 students, it is a little different for us as teachers. Our students can complete VET training courses, as well as VCAL and VCE. In our Year 10 feeder schools, students are given the knowledge about TAFE and VET courses so they can make informed choices about the subjects they choose, which will often steer them along a particular career path.

I found the stereotypes in Figure 2 "The cognitive Map of Aspirations" rather depressing. I thought in this day and age we would have different concepts about equality in occupations. No wonder the students are so confused about where they are heading and the prestige of their occupation choices.

I work at Bendigo Senior Secondary College. We have approximately 1900 Year 11 and Year 12 students. Helping each individual move on to further education or employment is a true concern for all of us. I found that reflecting on my own aspirations and experiences when first getting into teaching has helped me understand where the students are at. Compared to many, many students, I was privileged to know my destination and I had many people who supported me on my journey.

When I first started the course I opened the documents in Explorer. The DVDs would not play. They did play in Chrome.
